The Gallery

I began painting while in San Luis Obispo High School in California. Although I have been painting for over sixty years, there have been long periods of inactivity. Some of my works have been sold, and others given away, but mostly I have painted for my personal satisfaction and to decorate our home. I have lost track of many of them so I hope that they have found a good home where people are enjoying my work. This gallery is from the paintings that I have around the house. The paintings are arranged with the most recent at the top.

All images are property of George Cargill and copyrighted. They may not be reproduced in any fashion without the written permission of the artist.

It came about, as soon as Moses came near the camp, that he saw the golden calf and the dancing; and Moses’ anger burned, and he threw the tablets of the Law from his hands and shattered them at the foot of the mountain.” Exodus 32:19

What Manner of Man? Oil on canvas “30X36” 2020

“And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?  And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40  And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? Mark 4:38-41

Flowers, etc. Oil on canvass 18″X24″ 1986. Awarded “Honorable Mention” at the 1987 St Louis Artists’ Guild annual Oil and Acrylics Exhibition.

I think “Flowers, etc.” is the best example of still life in my repertoire. I receive a nice cash prize from the St Louis Artists’ Guild and my parents, George and Trudy Cargill, bought the painting. I received it back when my mother passed away in 2019.

I saw this old barn along one one of the local roads and took a photo which was used as a model for several paintings and drawings. Not many of these old barns are left as they are being torn down for the weathered barn wood.
